In February of 2024, Murray McMurray Hatchery embarked on a comprehensive IT modernization initiative under the leadership of Saltech Systems. This project aimed to enhance network infrastructure, improve operational workflows, and implement advanced solutions that empower the team with greater control over technology. The result? Increased productivity, reduced expenses, and a future-ready business.
When partnering with Murray McMurray Hatchery, the company’s IT infrastructure was ripe for modernization.Murray McMurray Hatchery’s technology ecosystem was weighed down by outdated communication platforms, costly subscription services, and limited data security measures. These challenges hindered growth, increased operational expenses, and impacted team productivity.
Saltech Systems spearheaded a comprehensive overhaul of the hatchery’s network infrastructure and operational workflows. Our approach focused on leveraging advanced technology solutions to enhance data security, streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve communication—while empowering the hatchery with greater control over its technology.
Facing vulnerabilities in data protection, Murray McMurray Hatchery needed a robust, easily manageable backup system to prevent data loss. Our team implemented an onsite Synology NAS, which enabled nightly versioned backups for all computers and servers. The system is accessible via a user-friendly cloud-based GUI, making data recovery instantaneous and improving overall data security.
Impact:
This solution greatly enhances the hatchery’s data protection strategy by ensuring versioned, regular backups, allowing for quick recovery in the event of data corruption or loss.
Relying on costly, subscription-based network services, Murray McMurray Hatchery was facing limited control and flexibility over network management. Saltech Systems transitioned from a subscription-based managed router to an owned Unifi network system, which brought several advantages.
Impact:
The hatchery now enjoys greater control over its network infrastructure while reducing ongoing operational costs. The Unifi system’s transparency and ease of use empower the team to monitor and maintain their network without needing external services.
The VPN setup for remote employees was complex, unreliable, and difficult to manage, impacting the work-from-home team’s productivity.
Impact:
Saltech Systems integrated Unifi Site Magic, which replaced the VPN configuration and created a seamless, reliable connection between remote employees and the main office. This solution not only simplified remote access but also boosted connection reliability for employees working from home.
Facing significant communication inefficiencies, Murray McMurray Hatchery needed a plan to improve outdated and fragmented systems including internal messaging, tools for mass emailing, video meetings and technology infrastructure for events like the McMurray Festival.
Solution:
Saltech Systems implemented a series of modernization efforts to streamline internal communication and consolidate services: Slack was introduced to repose Pidgin/Openfire, offering a modern platform for faster communication and collaboration through organized channels.
Then consolidated multiple services to reduce complexity. Mass emailing transitioned from Amazon SES to Gmail’s SMTP relay, video meetings moved from Zoom to Google Meet, and calendar management was unified under Google Calendar, eliminating the need for multiple platforms.
For McMurray Festival, Saltech Systems collaborated with management to set up technology infrastructure, including installing a camera system to live-stream hatching chicks and configuring devices for smooth presentations.
